Why This Site Exists
Wisconsin public-records law, including Wis. Stat. ch. 19, makes many government records open to public inspection, but inmate information is still split across offices. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office operates the Columbia County Jail for local arrests, pretrial detention, short county sentences, and Huber custody. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections runs a separate locator for people sentenced to state prison or DOC supervision. Federal inmates and immigration detainees are searched through still other systems. This site brings those paths into one Columbia County reference point without claiming to be the official source.
